On June 24 Team USA came to Newport. here the USA squad powows before the game.
Gabriel Saade (Duke) leads off first and is held by Team USA's Justin Smoak (South Carolina). Newport starter Adam Wilk was a freshman for Team USA Head Coach Mike Weathers at Long Beach State this past year. Wilk had now allowed a run in 11 innings and two starts prior to giving up runs in the first... Justin Smoak had four multi-RBI games the first week. This night he he had 2 hits, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI in a 5-4 victory. Once again the Torrington Twisters were the only team to beat the USA squad 4-3 the night before.Melissa Paiva photos
On Tuesday, June 26th the Lowell All-Americans visited Northwest Park in Manchester, CT to face the Silkworms. This game, like all NECBL games, was broadcast on the internet.
Opposing starters for the game are Lowell's Drew Bignall (Trinity/Wayzata, MN) and Manchester's Giuseppe Granitto (Concordia/Bronx, NY)
Lowell catcher Brendan Akashian (Holy Cross/Lowell, MA) connects on a low and inside pitch. Ryan Lavarnway (Yale/Woodland Hills, CA) catches for Manchester. Akashian was announced as the Co-Player of the Week, Lavarnway was the Player of the Week the previuos week.
Silkworm firstbaseman Anthony Russell (E. Tennessee State/Waldorf, MD) tries to snag a foul pop off the bat of Miguel Magrass only to have the ball fall an inch over the fence. Magrass (Vermont/W. Roxbury, MA) would then single in 2 runs. Here he's congratulated after scoring later in the inning. Lowell prevailed 5-1.
Above left Silkworms shortstop Casey Frawley (Stetson) makes an over-the-shoulder catch against the Westerners on June 29. Right fielder Brian Kelaher (Brown) looks on. On July 3rd Newport came to town. Here Frawley takes a high-throw on a Gulls steal attempt.
Newport's Drew Poulk (North Carolina) chugs it to first while Kelaher, playing first this night, takes the throw.

On July 8th the SteepleCats hosted Danbury. North Adams Mayor John Barrett honors America along side the Cats. Jon Ban (Gardner-Webb) started for North Adams.
Ozzie Borrell (Florida Gulf Coast) slides into third safely avoiding the tag of Danbury's Carmelo Jaime (Miami Dade).

Will Skelton (Texas Christian) pitched for Newport. The game was Military Appreciation Night. Newport mascot Gully struts his stuff while the Navy Band performs.
After the Danbury game Newport's Matt Vance signs baseballs and helmets for Little Leaguers.
